Independence Day Gratitude – Review and Outlook

This note of appreciation would seem inadequate for all the sacrifices made by you,  my dear friends and family, each of whom  gave precious time, support and finances to our short campaign for Oklahoma — for one last attempt to recover a lost independence.

How could i find the words and the time to personally express my gratitude for your faithfulness in a cause that transcends any motive of personal gain and seeks the betterment of all?   Yes, even my most misguided adversaries could have gained from your devotion to the righteous ideals and principles we sought to restore at the Capitol, however,  I do trust that a higher purpose is being accomplished in this experience and the associations we’ve made.

Over the past 12 days or so, while recovering lost hours at work and waiting for the opportunity to write you, my friends, there have been many moments to review and assess what happened–  the messages, omissions and mistakes that could have changed the outcome.  And for all the causes of defeat, I accept the responsibility.  No one else could have prepared sooner, communicated more effectively and made essential decisions necessary  for gaining commitments and resources.

Yet, in the apparent defeat we suffered, there are abundant reserves of grace to win future battles.  This is our greatest assurance–

As always, there were many ignorant and some silent “sunshine patriots”* , who stood aside to watch or who fell to the influence of social and peer pressures, preoccupied with commitments, and other forms of servitude which blind or bind them from coming to the aid of a country plunging into lawlessness and insolvency, and a state that has surrendered its sovereignty.

The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”

— from  the ” American Crisis” series, by Thomas Paine

And I will not judge them,  for if some know not their own motives, then surely I could not discern them.  But action or inaction speaks well enough, and such we should remember.  Low information voters are a plague in this day, and the self-serving elements in the party depend on their ignorance to sustain their temporal illusions of power.   Unless this changes through a renewal and resurgence of true patriotism, sacrifice and national repentance, our passing defeat pales in comparison to the coming collapse and ensuing chaos.

I believe it’s most important to appreciate that key battles will be fought in a different arena than some would suppose.   So few of us recognize how we’ve been divided, especially within the cultural and religious circles of a nominally Christian America,  that our only hope for recovery of the Republic is a genuine revival.  Therefore, the best thing about a failed attempt could be allowing it to expose our weaknesses and the need for revelation and spiritual growth, on both sides and beyond the countervailing factions within a party or community.  We upheld the highest standard by praying for Travis before and during the campaign, and we can trust he will hear the Lord and have opportunity to avoid the pitfalls of influence and pressure from those who would control him for personal gain and exploitation.

“How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the  Lord.  How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, Who seek Him with all their heart…

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word…

Teach me, O lord, the way of Thy statutes, And I shall observe it to the end.  Incline my heart to Thy testimonies, And not to dishonest gain. Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity, And revive me in Thy ways… Turn away my reproach which I dread, for Thine ordinances are good.  Behold I long for Thy precepts;  Revive me through Thy righteousness.”

–Psalm 119:1,2, 33-40

I would deeply appreciate your prayers for one another as well as myself and family, that we may seek what is best.  This is a week of national prayer, as announced by several prominent ministries.  We must seek wisdom to know where to focus attention and energy in the coming weeks and months.

To everyone who contributed, even the least measure of support, I am most grateful  for your help and common desire to bring a renewal of freedom, righteousness and justice to both the Republican party  and the people of Oklahoma.  Let’s  take the earliest opportunity to meet again, encourage one another and pursue the hope of advancing the kingdom of God.

For Liberty–
